Match Reports 15th November

UQ Lovers: BW

We were short a few players due to exams, although we had all of our more experienced players. As such we took the opportunity to play a lot more man than we usually would have. Early on we were able to get a couple of turnovers, but the dojo were able to get every single one back as our offense struggled against whatever they chucked at us. Shortly before half with dojo already up about 6-2 we switched to a zone defense which was able to put a lot more pressure, force a lot more throws and a few points we were able to get multiple turnovers. However, we still had the same problem working it in and were only really able to get goals through sneaky, quick movement of the disc rather than working it through hard cuts in the lanes. The intensity that we would have liked to have played at wasn't there, although we did have moments where our offense or defense looked really solid, we weren't able to sustain it for very long.

The second half went much the same way as the first and a convincing 15-5 win for the Dojo that sets up a really good match next week against the Heroes. We have versed both teams in the last two weeks, and although we were a lot closer in the Heroes game, we probably played a lot better in that game as well.

Cobras: Troy
Throughout the season I have received a lot of criticism from people around my match write ups. Mostly that they don't contain enough content about the game so to those people I hope this meets your requirements. First point Cobras, second point Cobras, third point Heroes, fourth point Cobras, fifth point Cobras, sixth point Cobras, seventh point Cobras, time out, eighth point Cobras, ninth point Heroes, tenth point Cobras, half time. Eleventh point Cobras, twelfth point Heroes, thirteenth point Cobras, fourteenth point Heroes, fifteenth point Cobras, sixteenth point Heroes, seventeenth point Cobras, eighteenth point Cobras, nineteenth point Heroes, twentieth point Heroes, twenty first point Heroes, twenty second point Cobras, twenty third point Cobras. Cobras win 15-8
Heroes - Seb
Heroes were thoroughly outplayed on the night in relatively gusty conditions which made throwing and catching harder than your average weekly hitout. No doubt Troy will use his imagination to give a much more accurate recount of this match but I will attempt to shed some light on it nonetheless. Cobras raced out to a half-time lead of 8-2. Chris Brown followed in the footsteps of his older brother (from last week) by dropping a pull. Their zone was pretty dominant and forced a lot of poor throws.

Heroes mounted a last minute comeback at about 13-3 to add a modicum of respectability with a final scoreline of 15-8. Troy and Finn had very solid games amongst a line-up that didn't have many weak spots. On our end Dusty had quite a good game, running a tireless puppy and contributing well on O points.

Next week we play Dojo in the "game-to-go" to finals. Hopefully we can bring the intensity and enthusiasm that that game will require.

Dojo - ads
In a windy night, Dojo patiently took the disc away from UQ lovers with some great man D, and scored a high completion when we did start on offense.

Moment of the night was Daz getting another great D with the disc floating a bit, and then sprint for the end zone and Sean throwing a lovely hammer over the heads of both teams (against the wind) for Daz to score.

Although their offense is clearly their strength with some fast movers around the disc, UQ can put on an effective zone. With a windy night, throwing over the top was tough, and they clamped down well.

Although the hammer was open all night, Dojo threw some lovely ones that any night would have been Dojo-Gold,  but with some wind made them tough to catch - including one from Ryan that sailed away towards Logan somewhere.

  1. Bugs report
So this was not so much as tanking as one would say breaking. The old men have had to work hard this season against the younger and flashier teams. The Bugs rocked up to the game with 4 fit players and then a number of guys with bird flu or COMS (Cronic Old Man Syndrome). Against a Mayorless slamtown the result was almost a forgone conclusion. While a 15-5 scoreline suggest a complete blow out that did happen bugs where their own worst enemy with all the receivers having a number of cold drops.

Full Credit to the slammers and particularly to their young Gun Stu? who is the only player in brisbane who could even get a hand on some of kalins Bombs. I don't know if he pulled any in but he sure did give it fair crack with a couple of shoulder height layouts.

Now depending on results this week Bugs could be up against the slammers in the semi which will mean bugs will need a fit line to take the flatballers down.
