Slamtown - Stef
The UQ Lovers are not to be underestimated, they are a gritty team, with great chemistry and determination. Last nights match saw SFC getting up in a rather chippy affair. The Lovers were not happy with the involvement of the whole of Slamtown on many of the calls, and Slamtown didn't like many of the calls being made so involved themselves while up in arms.
It seems this angst loomed for much of the game, may have helped the Lovers to rattle SFC... slightly.
Inbetween calls there was some excellent play, Lots of zone on the up winds and man on the downwinds employed by both defenses. Slamtown got the benefit of the doubt for most of the points in the early going, around though many were hard fought, they went up 8-3? at half. In the second half the Lovers really turned scrappy, and points were a bit harder pressed, coupled with Slamtowns willingness to huck on the first thow of their posession, and UQ and clawed back to 13-9. SFC were able to close things out from there, and won their 7th in a row, 15-9.
Cobras - Troy
This week the Cobras were struck down following their week in the mines, three players out with the black lung and they were forced to refer to their dads as pop. Anyway for those that did show up they saw someone asked Man Baby what he was doing tonight? He responded with "Man Baby figured he could walk over the People's bridge, just like this... surrounded by the millions (pause) of the Cobras' fans, all chanting his name! (crowd chants "Man Baby") Find some Dojo jabroni to hold his glasses... come here, jabroni. Hold Man Baby's glasses. Maybe embarrass him at BPL... how you doing? "Well actually..." IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW YOU'RE DOING!!" Most of the rest of the evening paled in insignificance to this almighty event, if we are honest the rest of the week has seemed like a non event in comparison. Cobras win 13-12.
Blitz - Cunliffe
Heroes were out for revenge after their loss to Blitz in
the first roundand it was clear that had thought deeply on how to improve their
previous performance when they came out fired up and with a new zone strategy.
Two marathon points later Heroes were up 2 - 0 and were
looking the goods forcing Blitz to call a timeout to reassess.
After that timeout Blitz went on to score the next point
and started to employsome zone of their own, and then went on to score the next
3 points to take a 4v 2 lead. From there the game was close for awhile and some
trading ensued, but Blitz took half 8 v 5.
Aided by some windy conditions in the second half Blitz
implemented some lock down zone of their own and gave the Heroes handling line
a lot of troubleand managed to keep them scoreless in the second half. Closing
out the game in timely fashion 15 v 5.
So once again it looks like the race for 3rd and 4th hangs in the balance, and with 3
weeks to go and every team still with a chance of making the finals it should
make for some ripper games. Exciting times for BPL.
UQ Lovers - BW
Game tied at 2s, slamtown went on a run to go up 12-4. We
fought back to get it to 13-9 before they were able to close it out 15-9.
Unfortunately for us, Slamtown took to refereeing the game like they would
their favourite footy side on a Sunday afternoon which made for a very
unpleasant game to play and I know numerous UQ lovers players talked about how
un-fun the game was. Communication with the slamtown leadership to try and
rectify this had some help, although it took a while and some repeated chats.
As per rule 1.7.3 i would advise the Slammers to really
watch their first reaction to any call. The number of times any call was made
on the field was followed up by multiple players (both on and off the field)
swearing and yelling at the player making the call before they were allowed to
even speak was incredibly disrepectful. Often times the call ended up going
uncontested as well, i can't think of any other reason for this other than
blatant intimidation of both newer players and some of our veterans. This is
not in the spirit of the game and I would have been appalled if that happened
in any other sport, let alone ultimate.
Heroes - George
The Heroes struggled to find form again this week, and after
playing some good defence earning some turns and matching Blitz to 5 all, we
struggled to get the basics right. Nothing was working for us. Blitz's long
game was working well, and they rode on their wave of confidence to take the
win.
Another hard week for us when we know we didn't play to our
potential, and we need to find a way to lift our game in these situations.
The end of the season is becoming very interesting in terms
of who will make the semis, Heroes have shown we have the game to make the
semis, don't count us out just yet!
Dojo - ads
For me, that was the game of the season. Close points the whole time, both teams making a few mistakes on offense, but Dojo's defense holding strong, and Cobras defense on zone doing well. Daz making a massive layout D with the disc handling a bit in the wind from a handling swing.
Dojo got ahead by 4 or so on the scoreboard, and with a few Cobra hail-mary throws long to the Americans it felt like it was going to continue. Unfortunately Cobras sorted their offense out and started racking up the points, and once they came level we traded for the rest of the game until Universe point.
And epic point in terms of 'lets keeping not scoring', Dojo throwing it away twice, and Cobra's players getting handblocked by first Cola, and then Fatty.
Finished off with style, Wetnose unleashing a soaring hammer into the endzone with Junior shouting 'NOOOOO'. Cobras unfortunately win, but Dojo walk away feeling good - as long as we make the semis, we know we can mix it with the top team.
Does anyone from Slamtown want to aloe vera to help ease the burn?
