BPL Fixture 12th April - Report

How about those lines tonight eh?  Beautiful.  And I only tripped on them once....

Good effort from all teams to get them setup in good time and good order.  And special props to Reece and ??? for setting it up even though his team forfeited.  A tough time for a predominantly Uni-student team during Uni holidays....

Over on field 2 Buggers 15 d Heroes 7.
A tighter game than last time although Heroes again gave us too much possession early on through a ton of simple drops.  We know they have the talent and manpower to make it tough, but they seem inconsistent and susceptible to loss of focus under pressure.  Luckily we were able to capitalise on that and turn the possession into points.  That said, they did make some smart adjustments in their game and they ran with us to 6-4.  There were times when I looked at their line and felt they more than had our measure man-for-man.  They have plenty of guys with talent that needs to be respected.  They really missed George tonight with his old man injury :).  We played some zone on them early and forced a few easy turnovers, but they switched something and started to bust through.  We went back to Man D and we took it away.  8-4 at half and then a strong second half to win 15-7.

But the Bugs played pretty well tonight.  Our rookies all did some good stuff.  Tim Webb is a genuine speed machine and looks like he's starting to find his space.  Dave Campbell has some good hands, is a solid thrower, and doesn't seem too phased under pressure.  Ryan Flux (not a rookie, but has been out of BPL for a while) ran strongly all night and caught a clutch goal at 4-3.  Rolo voiced some strong words late in the game and then laid out in the endzone to catch a TRoss 40m hammer goal.  Buzz did what Buzz does....  In general the handling line was pretty clean with only a few stupid turns.   It is true that we probably took too many hammer options which we wont get away with against some other teams ... but we kept scoring points with them, so what can you do eh TJ?  A combination of a solid handling line, with Jangles, TJ and Tony providing some strike power in the middle and a hardworking D line probably sums up the night.

I feel there's a quiet confidence building in the team.  Plenty of work still to do, but most of the Buggers seem to be enjoying their frisbee right now.  And that's always a good sign.   I'm really looking forward to the back half of the season.  Particularly to round 2 against the Dojo...... :)

  1. The fact that Reece put the portafields out when there was only him and Alex (and so they forfeited and we mixed it up) was bloody awesome. Also awesome, so was my block on Watto for the first throw of the game. He called a strip, which was a heinously wrong thing to do. Although his 1/3 field thumber to score made up for it later.

  2. Hang on, don't you play on the same team? You can only get stripped by the opposition!
