Match Reports 23rd Sept

Table updated on the right.

Slamtown - Stef
The Cobras were the talk of the town, and SFC was hearin none of it.
We took to battle and got away with the first 2 goals while the Cobras lay relatively flat, but it didn't take long for them to perk up.
Soon we were well into a hard fought, physical battle.  After the first handful of points, it leveled out to SFC dictating the pace of the game 1 point at a time.
Both teams were crisp with the disc, and I'd fathom to guess that there was a stretch in the game of between 7-10 points without any turns..  the team that received scored on that possession.
The Cobras shortened their lines, with 10 on hand, but really only playing 8, as 2 of their rookies were forced to be spectators.
In the end, SFC had a few late turns, and the final point began, drawn at 12.... still 2 min on the clock.
After 2 posessions each, aL lofted a back hand 25m up the line to a streaking Abra who held on for the win, only moments after time had expired, and to hand the Cobras their first loss... and hopefully the end of their shith@use match reports.  :)

Heroes - Chris Brown
Well heroes started in classic heroes style and let uq lovers pull out to a seemingly commanding lead (up 7-2 at one stage). Luckily for us a mental switch happened for the whole team as well as lovers starting to tire from playing savage all night allowing us to bring it back to 10 all. At this stage the clock was running down, pressure was starting to pile on both teams, turnovers aplenty including 3 from none other than seb brown. A 10-3 second half meant that heroes took away the points this week with end score being 14-11

Cobras - Troy
Like an army out of Minus Morgul the Cobras have swept all who stood in their way like balloons. This week the army of Slam Town stood in their way, few gave them more than a fools hope. Their leader a Mayor (What chance could they have) was heard to attempt to rouse his troops with a speech "No commercials, No Mercy!". In fairness, as a Mayor it is hard to get your quotes to come from the right movie. Throughout the battle the leaders seemed to be their honorary knights, one and ogre named Abra who couldn't find his donkey but did find his puss in boots (who appeared to have lost his boots) and a deeply religious knight Griff. Griff it is said can be seen in all battles after diving on his knees praying for a short period. All this seemed like it wasn't going to be enough until the Cobras started to look like they had been cursed. There was but one explanation for this curse, Finn. Yeah I went there I blamed a curse on one person. This curse was too strong to overcome, and the Cobras lost purely because of Finn. Cobras lose on universe point, 12-13.

UQ Lovers - BW

After a couple close games, we were really keen to get a win on the board. We only had 7 people down at the fields against a rather full squad for the heroes. We managed to get the jump on them 7-2 after starting out on defense. Our zone defense was working quite well and our offense was quite collected and safe. Something happened around that time, maybe we got a little tired or the heroes started to want it more but we managed to throw the lead pretty quickly. Credit to the heroes who came away with it 14-11. It's very frustrating to throw a lead like that, but credit to the guys who did come down and ran through the game exhausted by the end.

Moreton Bay Buggers 15 Defeat Blitz 9 - Mat

Buggers went into the game with 0 from 4, including a bye.  With one hand firmly on the wooden spoon we needed a win badly to kickstart our season.  I wasn't present at the game, so my report is a collation of information from some of the boys.  I think the general consensus is that perhaps it might be better if I stayed away next week too......
We got an early jump on them with Buzz throwing a bunch of hammer goals, and our zone D was forcing some turns.  We took it out to 6-2, and then took the half at 8-5.
Blitz worked a zone which tightened up the D and they fought back to 11-9.  But we streaked away with a bunch of quick turns and tinny goals to salvage some pride with a hard running 15-9 win.
Phew.....
The seal has been broken and the wins will start flowing from here.  It'll be a test to fight back into semis contention but no doubt we'll take some confidence away with a scalp.  Maybe Blitz aren't a prize scalp in context of the competition , but right now we'll just be happy to have something in the trophy cabinet.... anything..... even a skanky plaited ratstail scalp......
