Match Reports Round 2
Hi all, apologies this is so late, and that we've only got half the teams. Better next week.
Table Updated on the right.

Blitz: Jmac
This current UQ team has shades of Blitz's first season... a few senior heads, and a bunch of fresh young guys keen to run hard. Gary's injury certainly hurts the Lovers, who miss his steady head and throwing ability, and makes them rely even more on the rest of the Gympie Gang. UQ were very capable of beginning an offence tonight, but struggled to string multiple passes together through their less experienced cutters. It didn't help that Blitz played exceptionally smoothly on offence for our first game in months, generating options all over the field and moving the disc smoothly. Other than my own frequent donations to the Lovers' cause, Blitz was very thrifty in retaining possession. Frankly, both teams are young and have lots of room for improvement, and I'm excited to see what this season brings for each of us.
Slamtown - Stef
Week one action was stricken from the schedule due to inclement weather, but only found out midway up the M1 that we were playing the Buggs, and not Blitz. So week 2 saw the Slammers first defence of their second title. We had insider knowledge that Buzz wouldn't be there and knowing Spesh had defected, and Mat R is on a hiatus, we may have assumed an easier match , even though the Buggs were last years finalists. And what would normally be a sight of dismay in an opposing uniform, was for once a breath of fresh air. #1 Mike Neild was back in the BPL, a league he was very used to dominating. And after a difficult and inspiring journey outside of ultimate, he was back and looking very refreshed as such, I was very happy to have a brief catch up with him, and for the first time ever, thrilled to see him in opposing colours. We came out swinging, and took a 3-1 lead, and after a timeout, the Buggs scored 4 in a row. Leads changed hands multiple times from that point, and though both offenses were relatively sloppy, both teams were leaving a whole lot of work out on the field on D. We couldn't quite get it together, and every time we came close, unforced errors would prove to sting us... We did enough to stay in the game, but not enough to win it... In the end it was a draw, they scored the last point in dramatic fashion, and i believe an extra spark of Parody has been added to the league. Look out for the Buggs. Many players were missing from both rosters, none more evident than Boo Lawson in Slamtown camp
Blitz 2: Cunliffe.
So it was Blitz 2's first ever game in the BPL and despite not getting thewin a lot of positives came out of the game including:
Scoring our first point for the season!
Scoring 5 points by half time!
Earning a number of defensive blocks with good old fashioned hustle!
Some patient throwing against a typically intimidating Dojo zone defence!
Raising some BPL eyebrows!
Watch this space.
That said, credit to Dojo. They played well all game and were worthy winners beating us to 6.
Definitely looking like championship contenders this season after last season saw them out of the finals for the first time in a long timeand no doubt they will be aidedby their off season recruitment success insecureing in Graham and Andy who both played really well

The game was good this week with great spirit shown from both teams. I don't believe that the scoreline was representative of the closeness of the game. I think they will do much better on our next encounter.
[Use this post when you tear the other team a new one and don't want to say that they shouldn't play in the same competition as you.]
Well, thanks Troy for writing it for me :).
All jokes aside, a few people have been worrying out loud at me that Blitz 2 will get creamed the moment Cunliffe pulls players into Blitz 1. I calmly tell them that's not his plan, but more to the point that these guys are a lot stronger than most people realise. A lot of them have been playing together in BUML, and have got good, fast connections. They're athletic, tall, and can throw. Harking back to Blitz's first season, I remember Dojo smashed them 15-1, and Chris was a bit upset. Getting up 3 points in the first 10 minutes, and then finishing on 6 is a bloody good effort for a rookie team in BPL.
For Dojo, it was a good first hit out. Largely controlled Ultimate. We'll see how we go this week against Bugs!

Ads rates Blitz 2 so much he didn't even put them on the table.
ReplyDeleteOuch. Fixed.
ReplyDeleteCobras - Troy
ReplyDeleteRoll up, roll up. The BPL match reports are back. It's time to sort the readers from the breeders, the writers from the fighters. In the posts we need people to put one word then another eventually you'll have sentences it's called writing. If you can't see pop culture here you're not playing your player hating. So the game made me think of an inspirational quote "The Rock says this, if the Rock hits you he'll kill you. If he misses, the wind behind the punch will give you pneumonia and you'll die anyway, so the choice is yours, jabroni." And always remember that Ron Swanson just wants steak and bacon.
Cobras Win 15-4
